FAQs
How do I upload the diagnostics?
You will have a unique login to our portal for HIPAA compliant submission of records. It’s quick and easy, and doesn’t require extensive training.
When will I get paid for the diagnostic work?
We will pay for all your work within 30 days of receipt of your monthly invoice.
Can my own existing patients be candidates for treatment through Clear Blue Smiles?
Sure! While we will send patients to you through marketing, any current patient you have can also go through the same process, and you will be compensated in the same manner.
Can I actively market this service to my current patients?
We don’t know of any laws or regulations that would prevent it; it’s just like any other new service that you add, for example, cosmetics, vitamin supplements, teeth whitening services, etc. As with anything else, feel free to check with your attorney or dental board if you have specific questions or concerns.
What kind of marketing support will you provide?
We will list your location on our website as one of our partners. We will also provide you with brochures and other collateral for potential patients, as well as other signage that you can use to show patients that you are a Clear Blue Smiles Partner.
Can I receive compensation from Clear Blue Smiles for services and also bill the patients’ insurance or otherwise charge them for the diagnostics?
No; unless your state regulations allow it, we believe that you cannot “double-dip.” That is why we are compensating you at reasonable rates for each exam your office performs.
What if a patient is sent to me and has preventative or restorative work that needs to be done? Can I offer to treat them in my office?
Absolutely. In fact, we hope that we are able to send you new patient leads. The more you succeed, the more we succeed! And getting dental issues resolved is best for all patients. Our hope is that our system will encourage more patients to address preventative and restorative work for an overall healthier and sustainable smile.
How long will it take for my staff to take the Clear Blue Smiles requested diagnostics?
Our doctors estimate that this will take an average of 20-30 minutes.
What if I don’t have 3D imaging technology to create an .STL file?
We will also accept physical molds. We will provide instructions on how to process these if you don’t have 3D technology. We will also cover all shipping and handling costs.
Are there any cases Clear Blue Smiles cannot treat?
Our clear aligner treatment is a great fit for approximately 90% of orthodontic candidates. However, there are a few things that would disqualify a patient from our program:
- Severe Class II or Class III (jaw relationship) *
- Excessive crowding in either arch
- Jaw surgery cases
- Excessive overbite (vertical relationship)**
- Excessive overjet (horizontal relationship) (usually reflects a large jaw discrepancy)***
- Excessive underbite (usually reflects a large jaw discrepancy)****
- Excessive spacing due to tooth loss
- Periodontal issues (loss of supporting bone)
*Class I, II, III are not degrees of difficulty. Class I is when the bite is fairly good and where it should be. Good jaw relationship. Class II is where the lower jaw is behind the upper jaw and Class III is where the lower jaw is in front of the upper jaw.
**Overbite is the vertical relationship of the front teeth. Excessive overbite is when the upper front teeth and lower front teeth overlap too much vertically.
***Overjet is the horizontal relationship of the front teeth. Overjet can be caused by a severe Class II and/or very protrusive upper front teeth and/or very retrusive lower front teeth.
****An underbite is when the lower front teeth are in front of the upper front teeth. Usually associated with a Class III relationship.
