Meet Dr. William Crutchfield, Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder of Clear Blue Smiles
Dr. Crutchfield has 30+ years of experience in the orthodontics industry and will use this knowledge and experience to bring a higher standard of care to the teleorthodontic market.
Dr. William Crutchfield has practiced orthodontics for over 30 years in the technology corridor of the Washington, D.C., suburbs. As a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Dental School and orthodontic residency, he has a keen interest and knowledge in the practice of orthodontics. He opened his own orthodontic practice directly out of residency and has been a leader in the orthodontic community ever since. A Board-Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Crutchfield has been very active in the specialty profession.
Dr. Crutchfield has served the orthodontic specialty field in many capacities.
He has been the President of the Virginia Association of Orthodontists, and President of the Medical College of Virginia Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation. He has also served in the American Association of Orthodontists for over a decade as Chairman of the AAO Political Action Committee and as a member of Council on Governmental Affairs.
He shares his knowledge and experience of the industry through many advisory roles: Clinical Adviser for Suresmile and Orametrix, Key Opinion Leader for Imaging Sciences and iCAT 3-D radiography, Advisor to Ormco Orthodontic Company’s Insiders, Adviser to OrthoScience, and is an elected member of the International College of Dentists. Through these roles his input is used for evaluating and improving products, as well educating others in the field about treating certain case types.

As an early adopter of technology, Dr. Crutchfield is considered a leading expert in digital orthodontic diagnosis, digital orthodontic treatment, and practice management for the digital orthodontic office. He is a frequent lecturer, writer, and adviser on digital orthodontic practice and related fields. Dr. Crutchfield feels that with today’s technology outstanding orthodontic care can be done virtually without the frequent – and often unnecessary – visits to an orthodontist office all while achieving the same great results. As co-founder and President of Ortho Velocity, the parent company of Clear Blue Smiles, he will help lead the new revolution for clear aligners through teledentistry by making dental professionals an integral part of the treatment plan.
